For the last 24 years, the Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line has been providing confidential, non-judgemental and affirming peer support to lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, questioning, 2-spirit, intersex and asexual youth across Ontario. The Youth Line is the first service of its kind and continues to be the only support service specifically by and for LGBTQ2S youth in Ontario.
The Youth Line has over 50 LGBTQ2S youth volunteers contributing over 6,000 hours. The service is open from 4:00 to 9:30 pm Sunday through Friday and has resulted in the organization talking to over 5,000 youth by phone, text and online chat.
In 2015 the organization celebrated their 20th year in existence, a major milestone for any provincial-wide not-for-profit. But while they celebrate their successes, their continued existence today means one thing: the work is not yet complete. Youth Line has seen a 60% increase in youth who have contacted them over the last 2 years and homophobia continues to remain a prevalent issue for LGBTQ2S youth.
The support of the Toronto ad community will help to ensure that this important service continues to run for the LGBTQ2S youth who still require help.
